Our county awards recognise and celebrate local members and volunteers

Our volunteers are truly amazing people who go above and beyond for the girls in our County

In Somerset North, we recognise the efforts of our volunteers with two special County awards:

Somerset North County Award

The Somerset North County Award is for members in the County, predominantly working at unit level, who have given excellent service.

The Somerset North County Award is intended to encompass all sections of guiding and a member being nominated for the Award must have shown commitment over a period of at least five years in Somerset North.

Nominees should also fulfil at least three of the following criteria:

  • Have contributed via an appointment at District/Division level
  • Have actively supported District/Division events
  • Kept up to date with Guiding developments, including attending trainings as appropriate
  • Maintained a successful and active unit
  • Promoted the principles of the Five Essentials and live up to the expectations of the Guide Promise


Applications must be made using the Somerset North County Award application form, which can be downloaded below. The form can be completed electronically should be submitted directly to the County Commissioner who will consider each application on its merits.

Somerset North County Brooch

The Somerset North County Brooch is given to a member of the County, with thanks and in recognition of their outstanding service and contribution to Guiding within Girlguiding Somerset North.

The Somerset North County Brooch is intended to encompass all sections of guiding and a member being nominated for the brooch must have shown commitment over a period of at least ten years in Girlguiding Somerset North.

Nominees should also fulfil at least four of the following criteria:

  • Have promoted the growth of guiding and an increase in membership
  • Have promoted the development of guiding within the County
  • Have encouraged and supported other adult members, in keeping with the aims and expectations of Girlguiding
  • Have made a contribution via a significant appointment at any level within the County
  • Have regularly offered varied opportunities to young members in their unit or to adult members at any level within the County
  • Have made a significant contribution to the delivery of successful events at either District, Division or County level
  • Worked well with their immediate team and who are supportive of their wider local team

  • Applications must be made using the Somerset North County Brooch application form, which can be downloaded below. The form, together with FOUR supporting letters, should be submitted directly to the County Commissioner who will consider each application on its merits with the County Awards Panel.
