New Occasional Residential Helpers

We know there are some amazing parents and occasional volunteers who jump in to help when extra adults are needed on a residential trip. We really appreciate them giving their time and helping Girlguiding to offer great experiences away from home for the girls!

If you are origanising a trip, please remember that these volunteers should be added to your unit team on GO with an ‘Occasional Residential Helper’ role so that we can carry out the necessary recruitment checks.

Any person staying overnight with the girls must complete a DBS (criminal record) check and provide the names and email addresses of two referees.

If you have a residential coming up this summer and you expect a parent or other occasional volunteer to come along, please let your District Commissioner know as soon as possible so she can add them to your team and start the recuitment check process.

Bear in mind that DBS checks can take up to six weeks to process, so don’t leave this until the last minute. Without a DBS check, the volunteer cannot stay overnight – even if they have a child taking part in the residential.

If you have any questions, please contact your District Commissioner, or read Girlguiding’s recruitment and vetting policy in full at the link below.
